James E. Carrow ("Jim"), formerly of LaSalle, Illinois, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022 at Ascension St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.
Jim was born on February 29, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Burnett Carrow and Regina "Reene" (Sobczak) Carrow. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his older sister, Judith (Carrow) Anderson.
Jim attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale "SIUC" where he received his bachelor degree in education and met his wife of 55 years, Jacqueline "Jackie". James started his career in education as a middle school teacher, but continued his studies in education receiving both Masters and Doctoral degrees in Educational Administration to later become a principal in Senica, Wisconsin where they had their first daughter, Michelle.
Four years later, they had their second daughter, Jeanine, while living in Illinois. In 1986, the family moved to LaSalle, Illinois where James became the superintendent of Dimmick Grade School and would later end his 33 year career in education as the superintendent of Montmorency Grade School in Rock Island, Illinois.
Jim's love for family and learning was ever present in his life and hobbies. Jim and Jackie spent 35 years together in their home in LaSalle. As an enthusiast of HO model trains and history, James began the LaSalle & Bureau County railroad club whereby he made many everlasting friendships after his move into the area. After retirement, James was also an active volunteer and member of the Mendota Railroad Museum and was instrumental in restoring and upgrading the museum's displays. Additionally, as an avid scholar of the Civil War, James also volunteered his time as a civil war historical speaker for local historical societies and area grade schools as well as annually participating in Civil War reenactments, under the persona of his great grandfather, in Princeton, Illinois.
James "Jim" Carrow is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jackie, their two children and three grandchildren.
The family will not be having any formal services at this time, but instead, will be planning a celebration of Jim's life at a later date with family and friends. Any condolences at this time can be directed to Mrs. Jackie Carrow at 7000 N McCormick Blvd, Apt 403, Lincolnwood, Illinois, 60712.
