Heather L.
Winslow
Aug 13, 1970 — Apr 3, 2025
Heather L. Winslow, passed away on April 3, 2025, in Winfield, Illinois. She was born on August 13, 1970, in Boise, Idaho. Heather was a woman of remarkable intellect and passion. She is survived by her mother, Kathleen Barauski, her sister, Aeron Teverbaugh and her aunt Connie Ojala, her father Wm. James Teverbaugh, and her spouse Jose Berrara from whom she was separated. We remember and celebrate Heather's extraordinary life and the countless ways in which she enriched our world. We will remember her strength, her light, and her whimsical sense of humor.
Heather earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Seattle. She focused her practice on the underserved as an attorney for the Federal Defender Program in Seattle and more recently for the Northern District of Illinois. Her commitment to justice was unwavering. When she opened her own practice her work further showcased her tenacious spirit and her desire to ensure that everyone received fair representation in the legal system.
Beyond her legal practice, Heather shared her knowledge and experience as an adjunct professor at Northwestern University in Chicago, where she inspired a new generation of legal minds with her insights and expertise.
Those who knew Heather will recall a woman who was not only smart but also incredibly generous with her time and resources. Heather's influence extended beyond the courtroom and the classroom, as she left an indelible mark on the hearts of friends, colleagues, and loved ones. We are heartbroken.
