Harold "Hal" Richard Pehlke, 83, died December, 25, 2022 at Belmont Village after a lengthy illness. Born in Chicago on July 21, 1939, Hal was the son of Harold and Marie Koeppe Pehlke. He grew up in Chicago in the Galewood neighborhood and was proud of being a lifelong Chicagoan.

Hal graduated from the University of Illinois in 1959 and obtained a MBA from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago in 1962. He pursued a career in banking, starting at the American National Bank, and continued it by working as an executive at various community banks in the Chicago area, including Mt. Prospect National Bank.

On Nov. 6, 1965, Hal married Phyllis Louise Lansu at Holy Name Cathedral. Phyllis and Hal had three children, Jennifer, David and John, whom they raised in Lake Forest. Phyllis died on August 23, 2010 after 44 years of marriage.

Hal met Carole Clark at a New Year's Eve party in 2011 and they were married in 2014 at the Chapel of St. James. After retiring, Hal spent his time traveling, reading and serving as a mentor to many. He will be remembered for his big heart, his larger than life personality and, most of all, his love of family.

In addition to Phyllis, Hal is predeceased by his daughter, Jennifer Pehlke (Brian Zimmer) and his son, David Pehlke (Shelby French). He is survived by his son John Pehlke (Tina Zabel); his wife of 8 years, Carole Clark Pehlke; and six beloved grandchildren, Julia, Greta and Charlie Zimmer, Mishamo Pehlke, Sophie Pehlke and Kyle Griffin. Hal will be interned at Graceland Cemetery. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations in Hal's memory be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
