Gregory A.
Freedman
Aug 4, 1964 — Mar 4, 2024
Gregory A Freedman, 59, of Des Plaines, IL, peacefully passed away on March 4, 2024 with his wife, Jenny Freedman and his sister-in-law, Sandy Kutchins by his side.
Greg passed away due to complications from an aortic dissection he suffered on 11/21/23. He fought hard for 3 ½ months but in the end, his body gave out. His last few months were filled with ups and downs. We thought he was going to recover so he could continue with his life. Sadly, it didn't work out that way.
Greg was born on August 4, 1964 in Uppsala, Sweden and grew up in the Hyde Park neighborhood in Chicago. He went to Shimer College and later received a Masters in Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).
Greg is survived by his loving wife Jennifer; his beloved mother Nina Chinn; brother Antony (Nancy) Freedman; sisters-in-law Sandy (Les) Kutchins, Nancy White; bother-in-law Richard Gilfoyle; nephew Jay Kutchins; nieces Natalie Freedman, Heidi (Jon) Poff, Maggie (Jennifer Rodin) White, and the late Carra Kutchins (Eric) Wiesel. He also leaves behind his Aunt Vivian Rowan; Uncle Frank Chinn; numerous cousins, other relatives and many many friends. Greg was proceeded in death by his father Daniel Freedman.
Greg was a completely devoted husband. He was loved and revered by all. Greg left an indelible impression on all that knew him. He maintained friendships from his childhood, Shimer College and previous jobs.
Greg loved his life, including his work. He worked in the education field for most of his life. He was most recently working at the Chinese Mutual Aid Association (CMAA) since June 2022 and truly loved helping their clients and working with his peers on a great mission. Prior to CMAA he worked and taught at City College of Chicago-Truman, teaching in Abu Dhabi, Great Books Foundation, Teachers Academy for Math and Science (TAMS) and several other places. He had many friends from everywhere he worked.
Greg loved life. Greg and his wife Jenny enjoyed traveling all over the world, going on cruises, and attending frequent concerts and all Chicago sports. Greg and Jenny have been long time season ticket holders of the White Sox. Greg also loved swimming, running, hiking, and backpacking in Colorado.
Greg was always kind and caring, ready to laugh or get into a deep philosophical discussion. Greg's brilliant spirit, radiant smile and compassionate heart captivated all who had the chance to know him. He will be missed by all of us.
A Celebration of Life is being planned and details will be posted soon.
Donations in his memory can be made to St Mary's Home- Little Sisters of the Poor, where Greg's mom lives or to the Chinese Mutual Aid Association, where he was most recently working.
