Geraldine
Horton
Mar 20, 1936 — Apr 29, 2025
Geraldine Horton, 89, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, in Elmhurst, Illinois. Born on March 20, 1936, in Menomonie, Wisconsin, she lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and a deep appreciation for the world around her.
Known affectionately as Gerry, she pursued her education with dedication and distinction. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology and later completed a Master of Arts in Library Science from Rosary College (now Dominican University). Her passion for knowledge and organization led her to a fulfilling career as a Chief Corporate Librarian at Quaker Oats Company.
Gerry shared a rich and adventurous life with her beloved late husband, Thomas Horton. Together they traveled the world, creating memories that would last a lifetime. After retirement, they settled in Arizona where Gerry continued to give back to her community through volunteer work. She was an avid bridge player and found joy in card games like Bridge and Hand and Foot. Her love of nature was evident in her enthusiasm for bird watching, a hobby that brought her peace and wonder throughout her life.
Following Tom's passing, Gerry moved to Bensenville in 2018 to be closer to her family. She embraced this new chapter with grace and warmth, continuing to offer guidance and support to those around her. Her home became a place of comfort and wisdom for many.
Gerry is lovingly remembered by her children: Susan Horton and her husband Bruce Stone; Nancy Horton and her husband Chad Park; and John Horton and his wife Maria Horton. She was a proud grandmother to Veena Koda, Eris Park, and Ethan Horton. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Horton and her sister Ardyth Brayton.
A celebration of Geraldine's life will be held at a later date. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew her—family, friends, neighbors, and all who were touched by her generous spirit.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
Donations in her memory can be made to the Red Door Animal Shelter (Chicago Animal Shelter: Adopt and Rescue Cats, Rabbits, Dogs: Red Door) and the American Cancer Society.
