Floyd Glass

Floyd “Babyson” Glass, 79, passed away on August 10, 2026, in Chicago, Illinois.

Born on February 10, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, Floyd lived a life marked by candor, complexity, and a presence that was unmistakably his own. Those who knew him knew that he spoke his mind, straight with no chasers, and that with Floyd, you always knew where you stood. He carried himself in a way that left a lasting impression, and his voice, his manner, and his way of being will be remembered by many.

Floyd served in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. Like many who served, he came back forever changed by the experience. That chapter of his life remained an important part of his story and of the man he became.

He was also known for the simple, memorable things that brought people together. Floyd was a good cook who enjoyed good food, and that love of food became part of how many will remember him. Alongside his strong and direct nature, those closest to him also saw other sides of him.

His sister Mia shared:

“I learned more about my brother in the last four years than I probably knew about him my whole life. I got to see a softer and funny side of him that I hadn’t really known before. I learned how much he loved sweets, especially strawberry ice cream. I can still see the smile on his face when I would come over with some. It was such a small thing, but it made him happy, and that made me happy.

I also started noticing how much he reminded me of our father. Sometimes it was something he said or did, and sometimes it was just a look. I would find myself telling him, you are just like Daddy.

I wish I had known some of these things about him sooner, but I’m grateful for the time we had and for the chance to know him differently. Those last few years gave me memories of my brother that I will carry with me always.

I’ll miss him, his smile, and yes, bringing him his strawberry ice cream.”

His daughter, Lisa, shared:

“My message is that God made sure that I was an image of you. I will miss hearing your distinctive voice and your summer visits. I wish we had more time bit you will 4ever stay in my Love Always your twin Lisa.”

The Leveston, Walker, Thomas, and Brown families shared:

“Yes I we want to thank our Stepdad for his Step Up game and we never ever forget the impact you had on our life and the entire Leveston Walker Thomas Brown family Beloved and Nerve wrecking Brothers in love Sisters in love Uncle in love Cousin in love and Most Importantly Wifey in Love U will never be forgotten Pop’s”

Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Leveston - Glass; his mother, Mattie Glass; his father, Floyd Glass; his sisters, Linda and Darlene; and his brothers, Billy, Walter and Clayton.
