Erica Maria
Kast
Oct 19, 1978 — Dec 20, 2023
On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, after an eight-month battle with pancreatic cancer, we lost our beloved partner, daughter, sister, and friend Erica Maria Kast.
Erica's zest for life was expressed in her love for adventure. She embraced challenges with enthusiasm, always seeking new experiences and pushing her own boundaries. She loved being on the water, in the mountains, on a bike, scaling rock walls, and sitting around a campfire in the woods. Her adventurous spirit inspired those around her to live fully and embrace the richness of life.
As an artist, Erica expressed herself through various media, infusing her creations with passion and authenticity. Whether it was on the yoga mat, creating original pottery pieces, painting on canvas, or guiding others through the practice of mindfulness, her creativity knew no bounds. Her dedication to her crafts was evident in every brushstroke and every pose.
In addition to her artistic pursuits and adventurous nature, Erica was a devoted and supportive partner, cherishing the bonds of love and connection with Jason. They were the perfect complement to each other, the yin to each other's yang, and recently engaged. She, along with Jason, were doting cat-mom & dad to Henry and Stella. Erica approached her relationships with the same passion, commitment, and determination that she showed in all facets of her life.
As a daughter, Erica was devoted to her Mom, showering her with love and support. Her loyalty to her roots and the people she held dear was unwavering, creating a strong foundation for her vibrant life. Maggie and Erica had a bond and connection unlike any other, and enjoyed cooking and baking, seeing dance and theater, and debating after what worked and what didn't.
Erica's life was shadowed by the loss of her father when she was ten, but she grew into a strong woman intent on finding the work she wanted to do. She was an effective arts administrator, then returned to school to study school psychology. Her strong social conscience led her to move beyond schools to work in mental health centers or prisons. With these in mind she began a Doctor of Psychology program. Cancer interrupted her advancement just as she was beginning an internship, the program's last year.
Her friendships were a testament to her genuine and caring nature. Erica was a loyal friend who shared laughter, tears, and countless memories with those lucky enough to be part of her circle. Erica would also show up, no matter what, and let you know that she supported you. Her presence was a gift, and her absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew her.
Erica's vibrant spirit illuminated every room she entered, and her positive energy was contagious. Though Erica's physical presence may no longer grace this world, her spirit will live on through the memories she created, the art she left behind, and the lives she touched. We are all better people to have known her, and we remember this every single moment of every single day. May her journey beyond be as extraordinary as the life she lived here with such passion and grace.
