Obituary

Eric Lee Johnson, age 43, of Chicago formerly Peoria, Illinois, took off on his favorite unicorn, Annabelle, Sunday, November 3, 2024, from Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago after standing his ground against a failing liver. Telling it to GFY.

Born on July 20, 1981, Eric was proceeded on his glitter rainbow journey by his boy Blu. He is survived by his loving husband of three months, David Schaplowsky, with whom he shared a partnership of ten years. He is also deeply mourned by his brother, Brian Johnson, nephew Jake Johnson and mother Kim. Eric held a special place in his heart for his role as "guncle" to his five-year-old "nephew", Rocco Gevas, the son of his childhood best friend, Robyn Gevas.

Eric was a proud and passionate business owner of Web Pub Bucktown, Chicago, where he was known not only for his sharp business acumen but also for his vibrant, eccentric personality. His love for collecting unique and eclectic items mirrored his approach to life—bold, individualistic, and always with a flair for the unexpected. Those who knew Eric best remember him for his kindness, generosity, and his ability to bring people together. In honor of Eric's wishes and vanity, there will be no public viewing or funeral service. As he doesn't look good in ash, his cremation has been arranged privately. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Eric's life in their own way, cherishing his memory and the impact he had on all who knew him. (As long as it includes sparkles. "Sparkles make EVERYTHING better.")

In true Eric fashion, the official Celebration of Life for Eric will be planned for after the holidays - and it will be a banger!

Eric's spirit, creativity, and love for life will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

"I hear your heart beat to the beat of the drums. Oh, what a shame that you came here with someone. So while you're here in my arms -

Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young"
