A devoted mother and grandmother, she is survived by her daughter Tori (Jorge), her two beloved grandchildren Grace and Nicolas, and dearest friend David Rowe. She graduated from Pekin High School in 1942. After high school, she attended Illinois Wesleyan University, graduating in 1964 with a degree in Education and Speech. She moved to Glenview in 1970 where she went on to spend 35 years at Wesley Child Care Center; starting as a parent, moving to the classroom, and rising to its Executive Director in 1991. She retired in 2014. Under her guidance, a scholarship program was established at the center for students in need of financial assistance. She worked tirelessly each year to raise funding to meet the ever-expanding needs of Wesley and its families. In addition, she expanded Wesley's scope to include before and after school programs located within District 34 schools. Caring deeply about her community, she dedicated the majority of her spare time addressing the underserved in the Glenview community. Ellen was also an active member of Glenview Values and served on the Working Committee for Character Counts! in Glenview. Ellen attended Glenview United Methodist Church in Glenview. Ellen loved spending time with her grandchildren, spoiling her dog Zack, and cheering on the Bears every Sunday with David. Ellen also enjoyed many special friendships during her lifetime for which she was very grateful. Ellen's family would like to extend a special thank you to the compassionate, hardworking, and dedicated staff at the Northshore Kellogg Cancer Center, Glenview.
