Edwin David Pixley, affectionately known as Ed to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, in Park Ridge, Illinois. Born on February 26, 1953, in Springfield, Massachusetts, Ed was a man whose life was characterized by friendliness, adventurousness, and an innate kindness that resonated with all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Ed's early years were spent in the nurturing company of his parents, the late Harry C. Pixley and Beatrice M. (Rainville) Pixley, along with his brothers. Though he is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Stephen C. Pixley, his memory will be cherished and kept alive by his surviving siblings, Daniel C. Pixley and his wife Midge (Laughery) Pixley of Belchertown, MA, and Kenneth A. Pixley and his wife Carol A. (Cignoli) Pixley of West Springfield, MA. Ed also leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter to his four nieces, two nephews, and his beloved close cousin Katheryn (Gaudette) Pixley of Bradenton, Fla.
Ed's education began in the halls of East Longmeadow High School and continued at the Airline Industry Training School in Hartford, CT. His studies there paved the way for a distinguished career with Delta Airlines of Atlanta, where he dedicated years of service in various cities including New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta, GA. His work not only reflected his commitment to excellence but also his desire to connect with people from all walks of life.
An avid traveler, Ed embraced the opportunity to explore his surroundings wherever he was. His adventures took him to breathtaking destinations and allowed him to amass a treasure trove of stories and experiences that he joyously shared with others. His passion for travel was more than a hobby; it was a reflection of his adventurous spirit and his quest for knowledge and new experiences.
Friends were an essential part of Ed's life, and he was fortunate to have many, including his beloved lifelong friend Michelle Benoit of Feeding Hills, MA, and his dear friend of over 30 years, George Fisher, along with a host of other cherished friends in the Atlanta, GA area. Ed's ability to forge lasting bonds was a testament to his friendly demeanor and kind heart.
Ed's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of joy, adventure, and genuine human connection. Those who knew him will remember his laughter, his stories, and his ability to make every individual feel seen and valued. His legacy is one of warmth, generosity, and the courage to embrace life wholeheartedly.
