Earle David Johnson

Earle David Johnson, born on February 1, 1943, in Grafton, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, in Chicago, Illinois. He was 83 years old.

Earle’s life was marked by a deep commitment to faith, family, and community. A 1961 graduate of Waukon (Iowa) High School, he then attended Wheaton College where he majored in history, graduating in 1965. His spiritual journey led him to complete his Master of Divinity at McCormick Theological Seminary in 1974. Earle’s dedication to his faith was evident throughout his life; he believed that following Christ’s teachings meant dedicating oneself to helping those in need.

Earle began his career with Youth for Christ in Chicago, where he made a lasting impact on countless young lives through his guidance and mentorship. After a decade of service to Youth for Christ, Earle embarked on a career change and entered the restaurant business eventually becoming sole owner of Quenchers Saloon in 1979. For nearly four decades, Earle owned and operated the beloved establishment until his retirement in 2018. Quenchers became more than just a business, it was a gathering place that reflected Earle’s welcoming spirit and love for fostering connections among people.

Earle had a passion for learning and exploring the world. He loved studying history, languages and traveling to new places. One of his cherished traditions was attending the Kentucky Derby each year with a close-knit group of friends who shared his enthusiasm for camaraderie and adventure.

Earle is survived by his devoted wife, Nisa Johnson; two sons, David and Dean Johnson; his sister Carol Johnson; his niece Shawn Luedtke; and two nephews, Dan and Jim Stock. He was predeceased by his parents, Jessie and Edwin Johnson; his sister Marilyn Stock and her husband Bill Stock; his niece Dawn Jordan; and nephew Donald Stock.

Earle’s legacy is one of kindness, thoughtfulness, and an unwavering dedication to uplifting others. His memory will be treasured by all who knew him.
