Van Laeke, Diane R. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, after a courageous battle with cancer. Diane R. Van Laeke passed on August 13th, 2018 at Symphony hospice care in Buffalo Grove. She was diagnosed in February, 2018 and her illness progressed quickly. She was born in 1948, in Chicago Illinois. She was proceeded in death by her former husband William Van Laeke, and parents Angelo and Ruth Alonso. She attended Waukegan High School and graduated in 1966. Diane worked for Abbott Laboratories for 34 years and had been retired the last 5 years. She enjoyed reading, movies and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by her children: Jill (Ryan) Cook of Henderson, Nevada; Laura (Michael) Hopkins of Antioch, Illinois; grandchildren: Miranda and Logan Hopkins; Gabrielle Cook. Her brother James (Nancy) Alonso, of Castlerock, Colorado; and sister Susan (Michael) McGrain of Ft. Myers, Florida; along with 2 nephews; Jason and Jeremy Schreyer, their spouses and children who also reside in Florida. Diane's wishes were not to have a wake or funeral, and her wishes are being honored. She loved animals so much that a donation fund to W.A.G.S ( Waukegan Animals Getting Saved) has been established in her memory.
