Obituary

Debra Ann Hettinger passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on July 5th, 2025. Debra was born and raised in Aurora IL and attended St Joes Catholic Grade School and Rosary High School. She went on to college and worked for Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital for 24 years.

Debra had an immense love for all animals, big and small especially her Bassett Hound, Kippy. She also loved her sister's dogs Louie the Pyrenees and Trixie the Corgi.

She loved holidays, especially Christmas. She would begin preparing for it in July of every year. Making sure she got gifts for everyone and preparing what she liked to call "Christmas Magic". She also never let us forget the real meaning behind Christmas as her faith guided her through life.

Debra loved books and was an avid reader; she could sit down with a book and be done reading it in one sitting at times. She liked the old-fashioned hard cover books and never opted to read anything online. Her book collection was massive as she built her own little library.

Debra enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and knitting and often made many beautiful things for family and friends.

Debra's memory will remain in the hearts of her family, friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing her for years to come. We hope her kindness and generosity will inspire those who knew her to do an act of kindness for others.

Debra was preceded in death by her grandparents John and Irene Hettinger, Anna and Albert Gette and her parents John A and Rose Mary Hettinger and brother Timothy John Hettinger.

Debra is survived by her brothers, John A (Kristine) Hettinger, Garett J (Janelle) Hettinger and Sister Rose Ann Hettinger. She is also survived by her nephew and nieces, Timothy J (Rachel) Hettinger, Cara (Matt) Hoesly, Beth Hettinger, Jacklyn Hettinger, Hope Hettinger and Calista Hettinger. In addition, she is survived by great nieces and nephews, Ryan, Maren, Noah, Penelope, Evelyn and Remmington.

A funeral mass will be held at Annunciation Church 1840 Church Rd Aurora, IL 60505 at 10:00am on Saturday June 14th. A luncheon will follow burial at Annunciation School Gymnasium directly across from church.

Debra requested that any donations go to St Jude or Guardian Angel Basset Rescue in her honor.
