Cornelia Louise
O'Malley
May 24, 1937 — May 1, 2025
Cornelia "Neill" Louise O'Malley (nee Miller) of Buffalo Grove, IL passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, at the age of eighty-seven. Born on May 24, 1937, she grew up in Ridgewood, NJ, and Shaker Heights, OH, the only daughter of Esther Louise (nee Luhman) and Archibald Tearse Miller. Neill's life revolved around her family, her joy of teaching, and her love of reading.
An alumna of Colby Junior College and the School of Education at Northwestern University, her career began in 1955 and spanned over six decades. She began teaching at Windsor Elementary in Arlington Heights, she continued to the University of Chicago Laboratory School in 1966, and culminated at Pritchett Elementary in Buffalo Grove, where she was a classroom and substitute teacher for 37 years.
Throughout her tenure, Neill was a cherished member of each school community she was a part of. Neill's colleagues knew her as a dedicated professional, a true friend, and her love for 'her kids' was evident to all. Students and parents remember Mrs. O'Malley as a kind and gentle educator who saw each student as an individual.
Neill was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Raymond Joseph O'Malley. She is survived by her daughter Shannon (Michael) Garrity and granddaughter Maeve.
In keeping with her wishes, Neill will be cremated. Her remains will be scattered in Winona, MN at a private event.
