Cora Spivy was a beautiful light. Born in Chicago on February 11, 1953. The third child of the late Willie and Odessa Spivy who came to Chicago during the Great Black Migration in the 40's to build a better life for their family. Willie was employed for over 30 years at Reynolds Metal Company and Odessa took care of the home and children. Together they were an unstoppable team that instilled many positive traits in Cora and her siblings which would be passed on through generations.
Cora attended Wendell Phillips High School and the University of Illinois Urbana. She worked for several years as a Property Manager for Habitat For Humanity and as a Mortgage Manager for Sears Mortgage Group. Cora was always a very inquisitive person who had a passion for fashion, hair and makeup, and the performing arts. She was known for putting on family talent shows for the children and her amazing storytelling abilities. She was also known for her big heart, often putting family and friends before herself.
Cora was a devoted and proud mother to her only child, Claude. As a single mother raising a child on the north-side of Chicago, Cora worked hard to ensure Claude received an excellent education and grew up to be a successful contributing member of society. She was grateful for the many positive principles passed on by her parents. She was able to impart that wisdom onto her son.
Cora is survived by her son, Claude; four siblings: Russel, Sadie, Odessa, and Delois. She also leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Cora was born into eternity on August 11, 2022 at the age of 69. She now joins her parents and sisters Patricia and EvaLois. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
