Christopher William
Chase
Oct 7, 1984 — Apr 2, 2024
Christopher William Chase, known affectionately as Chris to his friends and family, passed away on April 2, 2024, in Chicago, IL, due to complications of Marfan syndrome. Born on October 7, 1984, in Palo Alto, CA, Chris's journey through life was one marked by adventure, generosity, and love.
Chris's early years in California set the stage for a life of curiosity and learning. He pursued his passion for technology and earned an Associate of Arts in Electronics at Heald College, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Individualized Studies focusing on Computer Networking and Security at Metropolitan State University of Denver. Chris's educational background was the bedrock upon which he built a successful career as a Computer Engineer. From his humble beginnings as an intern installing electronics, he demonstrated an exceptional aptitude and work ethic, eventually rising to the position of Principal Wireless Engineer I.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Chris was a man who fully embraced the beauty of the natural world. He was an avid outdoorsman, finding peace and rejuvenation in activities such as camping, hiking, mountain climbing, and biking. His adventurous spirit was complemented by a profound sense of spirituality. As a born-again Christian, Chris's faith played a central role in his life, guiding him with its principles of love and compassion. He also practiced zazen and was a valued member of the local Zen Center, where he found tranquility and purpose.
His generous and loving nature was evident in the way he cared for his "fur babies," and in the deep bonds he formed with his best friends, Raymond Bustos and Joey Molumby. Chris's life was enriched by the presence of his beloved wife, Dracey Kirby-Chase, his devoted mother, Patricia (Todd) Ryan, and his supportive adoptive father, Steve Chase (Lorie). He was a cherished brother to Tobin (Katie) Chase and a treasured grandson to Vera Elgin. A dear nephew to his aunts and uncles, Terry Elgin (John), Jeanne Koehler (Missy), Anita Chase, Bruce Chase (Jeanne), Norm Chase and Bruce Koehler. A cousin to Ryan (Colleen) Chase, Travis (Isabel) Chase, Robyn (Garrett) Hale and Rachel (John) McCabe. A loving uncle to Colin Chase and Emily Chase. Chris's memory will be lovingly upheld by his entire family, including his step-siblings, Daniel Mahoney and Liz Cloud. Along with numerous friends that he made during his lifetime.
Preceded in death by his father, Don Brandt, and his grandfather, Robert Elgin, Chris leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
