Christine Lynn
Knobel
Mar 19, 1981 — May 5, 2026
Christine Lynn Knobel passed away on May 5, 2026, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 45.
Christine was born on March 19, 1981, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, to Sabine and Richard Walter. She spent eight formative years of her childhood in rural Germany, where she grew close to her Oma and Opa and was surrounded by extended family. Her time abroad shaped her worldview and remained a cherished part of her identity.
Christine was a devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and friend. As the oldest of four siblings, she was the steady center of the family—someone who brought people together, offered guidance, and helped shape her siblings into who they are today. She will be remembered for her selflessness, intelligence, and deeply loving nature.
Christine is survived by her husband, Nick, and her son, Jakob; her mother, Sabine; her father, Richard; her sisters, Katie and Natalie; her brother, Matt; her brothers-in-law, Mark, Matt, and Will; her sister-in-law, Kate; and her aunt and uncle, Donna and Tim. She is also survived by her mother- and father-in-law, Jan and Dave. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Lilo and Gunther Schaack; her paternal grandparents, Phyllis and Donald Walter; and her father-in-law, Pete Knobel.
Christine earned her BA and MBA from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and built an 18-year career at Rockwell Automation, where she was admired for her intelligence, dedication, and kindness.
Above all, Christine treasured her family. She loved holidays, traditions, and any occasion that brought loved ones together. For many years, she and Nick's home became the heart of family gatherings. She delighted in the rhythms of the seasons—decorating for autumn, celebrating the first snowfall, hosting Christmas, and filling the house with joy. She also cherished the summer months, enjoying warm days, long evenings, and time outdoors. Wisconsin held a special place in her heart, especially visits to her father in Kohler and time spent with family in Milwaukee.
Travel was one of Christine's greatest joys. Captiva Island in Florida was her "happy place," where she created treasured memories with Nick and Jakob. She also loved the family's annual trips to Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, where long days on the lake, sunsets on the dock, and quiet evenings by the fire became traditions she held dear. These moments reflected the life she built—one centered on togetherness, peace, and gratitude.
Christine was thoughtful in all the small ways that mattered. She never missed a birthday, celebrated life's little moments, and always made time for the people she loved. She enjoyed cooking special meals, summer bike rides with her boys, and soaking up the sunshine with her family. She had a way of bringing warmth to every day and making the ordinary feel meaningful.
Most of all, Christine was an extraordinary mother. She helped shape Jakob into the intelligent, curious, humorous, respectful, and kind child he is today. The light that radiated from Christine lives on in him—her generous heart, her gentle spirit, her joy. She was endlessly proud of him, and being his mother was her greatest honor.
Christine will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, the strength she showed in every chapter of life, and the joy she found in the people and places she cherished. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her husband, her son, her family, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, kindness, and enduring love.
Christine's family extends heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff at both the University of Chicago and Northwestern Hospital for their dedicated care throughout her treatment. In honor of Christine's generous spirit, we are raising funds to support Nursing Initiatives at Northwestern Memorial HealthCare in support of the MICU. Christine always believed in helping others, and we hope this legacy of giving brings comfort and hope to other families facing similar battles.
