Christine Amerman Hess, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully from natural causes on July 21, 2023, in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Born on March 17, 1944, in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, she was the cherished daughter of the late Herbert and Marjorie Amerman. Christine lived a fulfilling life as a nurse, community health clinic administrator, and avid traveler, touching the lives of many with her care and compassion.
Christine grew up in a loving family with her sisters, Martha (Lawrence) Reina, Carol (William) Brewer, Lucy (Scott) Lucker, and Susan Street, who all held a special place in her heart. The bond they shared was profound and evident in their lifelong closeness and mutual support. Christine was also a devoted mother to her son, Matthew (Clara) Hess, and a proud grandmother to Louis and James Hess. She was predeceased by her parents and by Marjorie Amerman, whose memory she cherished dearly.
Educated at Cook County School of Nursing and Roosevelt University, Christine dedicated her career to nursing and healthcare administration. Her passion for helping others led her to further her education with postgraduate work in Spanish, a skill which allowed her to connect with and assist a broader range of patients. Her dedication to her profession was evident in her work as a community health clinic administrator, a role in which she positively impacted many lives.
Beyond her professional life, Christine was a woman of many interests. She had a deep love for travel, having visited numerous countries and states throughout her life. Her journeys allowed her to embrace diverse cultures and experiences, which she often shared with her family and friends. Christine was also an avid reader, her love for books being a testament to her lifelong quest for knowledge and understanding. A true fan of Chicago sports, she would often be found cheering on her favorite teams with unwavering enthusiasm.
Christine is survived by her son, Matthew Hess, her grandsons, Louis Hess and James Hess, and her sisters, Martha (Lawrence) Reina, Carol (William) Brewer, Lucy (Scott) Lucker, and Susan Street. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Victoria Brewer, Adam Brewer, Elizabeth McDonald, John Lucker, and Samantha Carney, who will all miss her dearly.
Christine's life was a testament to her strength, compassion, and dedication to serving others. She was a beacon of light to those who knew her, always willing to lend a helping hand or share a kind word. She took great joy in her grandsons, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Her legacy will continue to inspire her family and friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
A memorial service and burial will be held at Mount Hebron Cemetery, 851 Valley Road, Montclair, New Jersey.
