Charles Ignatius
O'Donnell
Sep 3, 1948 — Oct 9, 2022
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Charles Ignatius O'Donnell, Jr..
Born September 3, 1948, he passed away October 9, 2022. He died suddenly without
pain or convalescence at age 74. For that we are grateful. He was the son of the late
Charles I. O'Donnell, Sr. and Margaret Farrell O'Donnell. His sister, Margaret Mary
(Teddy) precedes him in death. He is survived by his baby sister, Alice O'Donnell
Sullivan and her husband John and family. He was the uncle to Thomas (Jennifer)
Sullivan and the great uncle to Jack and Molly. He was also the uncle to Bridget
Sullivan and great uncle to her children, Michael and Michaela Mosley.
Uncle Chuck was that mischievous uncle that every kid needs. He taught Tom how to
feed the ants with potato chips while sitting outside of Estos Lounge and how to do a
perfect roundhouse kick. Uncle Chuck passed on the torch of prankster
extraordinaire to Tom. He had a special recipe for Care Bear sandwiches that he
shared only with his niece, Bridget. Vigorous sessions with Baby Skates always
demanded Care Bear sandwiches. Once he was in charge of getting her ready to visit
her grandma in a nursing home. I wonder what they all thought of a curly haired
little girl in a t-shirt 3 sizes too large and depicting the USMC bulldog with giant
cajones.
Chuck cherished many life-long friendships, too many to name. He loved fully each
and every one. He had many great friends at Local 3 Liquor and Allied Workers
Union, having worked there for 30 years. He kept up with friendships forged in
those wild and crazy teen years. He was proud of his service in the USMC, having
served 2 tours in Viet Nam. It also must be noted that he loved animals with a
passion. He mourned the death of the family dog, Bluto, for a very long time. The
tragic and traumatic death of our childhood dog, Smokey, stayed with him into old
age. But the most important thing to remember about Chuck was his outrageous
sense of humor, which will keep those of us who love him, chuckling long after our
tears dry up.
For those who might want to mark his death, you can do so by contributing in his
name to K9 for Warriors, a perfect charity for a canine loving grunt!
(https://k9sforwarriors.org) That would make him so proud!
