Dr. Chansin Yaung passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026 in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 86, following a three-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his beloved wife of 60 years and family.

Dr. Yaung was born on January 5, 1940, in Manila, Philippines, as the fifth of eight children. He earned his medical degree from the prestigious University of Santo Tomas while also pursuing and marrying the love of his life. Together, they decided to move to the United States, where he began his medical career at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He later completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit before joining Pawating Hospital in Niles, Michigan, where he dedicated the remainder of his career to serving the community.

Dr. Yaung cherished his family and his home along the river until the very end. He found joy in the quiet pursuits of reading non-fiction, vegetable gardening, listening to music, fixing everything around the home, and raising animals, especially poultry. Towards the end of his life, he and his wife Lolita spent more time in Chicago to be surrounded and cared for by his children and grandchildren. Despite this, Niles always remained close to his heart, and he returned whenever he could.

Dr. Chansin Yaung is survived by his wife, Lolita Yaung, and their children and families: Devin (Angel) and their son Caleb; Dan (Tricia) and their children Erin, Ella, Anna; Steven (Rachel Lee) and their children Lia, Eva, Luna; Kim (Kerry) Grady and their daughter Mia; and Joyce (Matt Bayer)and their children Samara, Avi, and Seraphina.

The family will hold a service to honor Dr. Yaung's life on May 30th, 2026 at 3:30pm EST at First Baptist Church in Niles, Michigan.
