Obituary

Carolyn L. Banks, a beacon of light and love, graced this earth with her presence from May 1, 1952, to January 17, 2024. Born, raised, and departed from Chicago, Illinois, Carolyn's life was a testimony to the power of joy and resiliency.

Carolyn's journey through life inspired many, as she navigated the world with an unwavering faith and an immensely loving heart. A graduate of Dunbar High School, she carved out fulfilling careers at the Post Office and Illinois Bell Phone Co., where her spirited nature brightened the days of colleagues and customers alike.

She embraced life wholeheartedly, evident in her passions. An avid skater, Carolyn glided through life's challenges with grace.  As a published author ("The World According To God"), her pursuit of collecting and selling rare books was not merely a hobby but a way to connect with others, sharing stories and wisdom across generations. Her adoration of "Back To The Future" trilogy reminded us all to cherish every moment—past, present, and future.

Carolyn's life was beautifully interwoven with her beloved family—son's Lawrence and Steve; parents Johnnie and Willa Mae; siblings Lydia, Irma, Shirley, Tammy, Johnnie Jr, Bruce, Roy, Michael, her cherished grand and great-grandchildren, and loved ones - all of whom fueled her purpose and passion.

In the spirit of Carolyn's favorite quote by Helen Keller, "Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence." Her legacy is one of hope, a testament to the belief that love and faith can move mountains and that a spirit of optimism can illuminate the darkest paths. Carolyn Banks lived as she loved—with a heart full of light, leaving an indelible mark on all who were privileged to journey with her.
