Carlos Antonio "Tony"
Virella
Nov 14, 1965 — Feb 17, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Carlos Antonio "Tony" Virella, 60, of Chicago, Illinois, who passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Swedish Covenant Hospital, surrounded by his family. He passed away due to an infection in his lungs.
Tony was born on November 14, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois, to Carlos Luis Virella and Maria Antonia Morales.
Tony spent most of his life working as a mechanic, a trade that suited his hands-on nature. He owned and operated Chicagoland Road Service, taking pride in helping others get back on the road. He had a lifelong interest in fixing things and was rarely afraid to take something apart to see how it worked. Over the years, he also took on various side jobs, including working as a mover, never shying away from manual labor. He approached both his work and life with determination and persistence, often relying on his own creative repair skills — and, at times, a little duct tape — to get the job done.
In his younger years, Tony was known for his love of practical jokes and his playful sense of humor; He enjoyed making people laugh. Tony was strong-willed and lived life on his own terms. Though he could have a short fuse, he was also resilient. Like a cat that always found a way to land on its feet, he faced many challenges and found ways to keep going. He was, in many ways, a survivor. He valued his relationship with his mother deeply, and that bond remained one of the most important parts of his life. In later years, he made meaningful changes, stepping away from heavy drinking and choosing a quieter, steadier path.
Tony was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his loving mother, his six sisters, his four brothers, and extended family members who will remember him in their own ways.
Tony leaves behind memories, stories, and moments that will not be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers or planting a tree, the family asks that you honor Tony's life by extending kindness and helping someone in need.
