Bruce Cardell
Conn
Mar 25, 1950 — Jun 16, 2024
Bruce Cardell Conn, known to his loved ones as Bruce, passed away on June 16, 2024, while embracing one of his many passions—traveling in the Dominican Republic. Born on March 25, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois, Bruce was the beloved second child of Roosevelt Conn Sr. and Autherine Conn. With a spirit as vibrant as his infectious smile, Bruce, affectionately nicknamed "Bosco," brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.
Bruce's educational journey began at Cooley-High High School, after which he proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Army in May 1967. His military career took him to Europe, where he worked diligently as a clerk before transitioning to the role of a tank driver. Bruce's laid-back personality and innate comedic talent made him a cherished family member, comrade and friend.
Following his military tenure, Bruce's creative soul found expression through his numerous artistic endeavors. He became a published author, touching lives with his best-selling book "The Horror of Cabrini Green," a work still celebrated in academic circles worldwide. Bruce's artistic talents didn't end with the pen; his remarkable sandstone carvings and intricate stained glass creations are a testament to his skill and passion for the arts—a legacy he lovingly passed on to his three sons.
Bruce's zest for life was not confined to his professional pursuits. He was a devoted father and a doting grandfather, always ready with a story or a playful jest. His familial bonds were strong, especially the cherished relationships he maintained with his siblings. The world was Bruce's playground, and he eagerly shared his enthusiasm for exploration with his younger brother, Arthur. Together, they embarked on many adventures, reveling in the joy of discovery and the thrill of the unknown. Sadly, Bruce's journey came to an end due to a heart attack. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his memory will be forever etched in the stories shared and the laughter he inspired.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Roosevelt Sr. and Autherine Conn; his son, Bruce Conn II; his daughter, Lakisha Vinson; his grandson, Jeremiah Conn; and his sister, Zendia Conn. His legacy lives on through his surviving family members, who will continue to honor his memory and celebrate his life. He is survived by his loving children: sons Malcolm Conn Sr., Elijah Conn, and Isiah Conn Sr.; daughters Victoria Vinson and Jennifer Knight. Bruce was also a cherished brother to Roosevelt Jr., Anthony, and Arthur Conn. His memory will be treasured by his twenty-one grandchildren: Khiera, Lavonte, Malcolm II, Malerie, Naya, Okalani, Jahsi, Saada, Mayasa, Kinah, Faraji, Isiah II, Jazaiah Conn, Rakiyah and Rhyian Hernandez, Ryleigh Vinson, Destiny Vaden, Avonni, and Ayce Spencer, Breona, and Deon Houskin. His six great-grandchildren—Khynsli and Khadynce Jimerson, Gia Harrell, Isaac Conn, Ayden, and Jayden Houskin—will also hold dear the moments they shared with their beloved great-grandfather. Bruce's life was a masterpiece of joy, creativity, and adventure. His absence will be profoundly felt by his nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and a myriad of friends whose lives he touched. Bruce Cardell Conn's story is one of love, laughter, and the indelible mark one man can leave on the world. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the beauty he created and left behind.
