Obituary

Aric Lasher passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024, in Chicago, Illinois, from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

His passion for architecture and design left an indelible mark on the world around him.

Born in 1961 in Detroit, Michigan, he earned a Masters of Architecture from Cornell University in 1984, followed by a Master of Fine Arts in Film from the University of Southern California in 1995.

Aric practiced architecture in Lucerne, Switzerland, from 1985 to 1986, and in Chicago from 1986 to 1993. In Los Angeles he worked as a lead set designer for multiple Hollywood feature films from 1995 – 2005. He returned to Chicago and worked at Hammond Beeby Rupert Ainge (HBRA) from 2005 – 2010 before succeeding Thomas H. Beeby as President and Director of Design in 2011 through 2022. In 2016, he became a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA).

Aric's love for design, buildings, and architectural history were paralleled by his zest for travel and good food. Those who knew Aric will remember him as highly intelligent, witty, and creative, with an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Aric is survived by his husband and partner of 26 years, Bert Green, his sister Cheri Lasher, and his mother Mary Ann Lasher.
