Antonio "Tony" Cuevas Ramos, 60, passed away peacefully in his Chicago, Illinois home on August 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Known affectionately to those closest to him as Papi Toño, Apa, Papi, Daddy, and Mi Amor, he leaves behind a legacy of resilience, deep love, and steady strength.

A Life of Passion and Quiet Joy

Born in Mexico on August 26, 1965, Antonio later spent his life building a beautiful home and foundation in Chicago. He was a man of immense respect among everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. While he carried himself with a serious and dignified demeanor, he was deeply laid back at heart. He cherished the quiet of early mornings, loved telling stories, and always had a good joke ready to share a laugh with his family.

Antonio was an amazing provider and the true backbone to his wife and children. He was exceptionally brave and resilient, ultimately finding peace after a courageous six-year battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer, and showing beautiful grace and strength during his final month to make sure his family would always be alright.

Outside of his dedication to his family, Antonio filled his life with the things he loved. He was a passionate cook who found joy in creating great dishes for the people he cared about. During his free time, he could often be found strumming his guitar, listening to music, or following his favorite soccer teams. He took great care of his health, enjoying regular trips to the gym, and had a well-known sweet tooth for pastries. Among his favorite moments were going out to dinner, taking long nature walks with his family, and simply spending time with his grandchildren.

Antonio’s life was guided by his favorite words of wisdom: "Hay más tiempo que vida" ("There is more time than life"). Through these words, he reminded everyone to stop rushing, to stop stressing, and to avoid worrying too much about trying to get everything done at once in life.

Family and Legacy

Antonio is survived by his beloved wife, Maria De La Luz Ruiz, and his four daughters, Blanca, Yuri, Alma, and Rosario, and the family dog, Benji. He is the cherished grandfather of Anthony, Leonel, Jaime, and Itotiani. He also leaves behind his siblings, Candido, Victor, and Rocio Cuevas, along with many extended family members and friends who will carry his memory forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio Cuevas and Florinda Ramos, and his brother, Heriberto Cuevas.
