Ann Herrington
Dwyer
Feb 4, 1938 — Oct 15, 2026
Ann Herrington Dwyer of Evanston, Illinois, a loving mother and grandmother who lived a full life, died on October 15 at age 88. Born in Warren, Ohio in 1938, Ann was a daughter of the late Dr. John D. Herrington Jr. and Gertrude Herlinger Herrington. The second of four children, Ann, grew up in Ohio and earned her bachelor’s degree in English at the Ohio State University. In New York after college, she met the love of her life, Lawrence Patrick Dwyer and the two were married in 1963.
In 1980, Pat tragically passed away, leaving Ann to raise their two sons, Larry and John. Ann rose to the challenge and the opportunity to see to it that they were well taken care of. Larry and John learned from Ann's example of perseverance and unconditional love.
During Ann’s professional career, she worked in management positions for CH2M Hill, Middle States Management and Frank H. Stowell and Sons.
Ann’s love of Evanston and her friends were her passion after retirement. She spent many evenings at Ravinia and Symphony Hall enjoying the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In Evanston, Ann loved being by Lake Michigan, walking along the bike path or visiting the farmers' market, and always seeing familiar faces. Ann served the Evanston Community on the board of YWCA and volunteering at the North Shore Village Network.
Most important in Ann's life was her love of her two children, Larry and John, their wives, Tracy and Amy and more than anything in the world; she loved her grandchildren Rae, Ty, Jack and Grace.
Ann is survived by Larry (Tracy) and John (Amy), her grandchildren, her sister Elizabeth McNamara, her sister-in-law, Phoebe Herrington, and three nieces and three nephews. Ann was predeceased by her husband, Pat, her parents, and her brothers, John D. Herrington III and George Michael Herrington.
