Obituary

Andrew Joseph Fleming, age 70, of Chicago, IL, passed away on April 13, 2025 at home.

He was born in Chicago on April 18 th , 1954, to Dolores and Garrett Fleming, both of Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Andy was the second of seven siblings raised in South Holland, Illinois. Andy was brother to Anne Fleming (Alan Hiller), Tom (Mary) Fleming, Judy (Steve) Coss, Patrick(Cyndi) Fleming, Mark (Beth) Fleming, Jeff (Sheila) Fleming.

His father spent his career working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. His mother was a homemaker and later worked in accounting. Andy enjoyed time with his large extended family, including many cousins and 20 nieces and nephews. Andy attended Thornridge High School in Dolton, IL. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Illinois and earned a diploma in Finance and Accounting. Andy passed the CPA exam and went on to earn a master's degree from DePaul's Driehaus College of Business.

Andy worked for many years as a chief financial officer of several large corporations such as Bally Midwest, Total Rehab and Major Pharmaceuticals. In the 1990's, he started his own company utilizing his knowledge of Medicare compliance issues as well as his accounting skills. In retirement, Andy continued to share his knowledge with others, helping with taxes and serving on the board of his condominium association.

He traveled widely and especially enjoyed his adventures in Mexico, and various regions in Asia. Collecting art from those travels brought him great joy and he loved sharing stories of his adventures.

He also loved music and cooking. His huge vinyl collection featured many of his favorites from the 60's to the 80's. He went to Rolling Stones concerts anytime they were in town. At the last Stones concert, he was thrilled to be selected to move to the front, near the stage, making the concert that much more memorable.

He was known among family and friends as an excellent chef, hosting many lively dinner parties at his home in the city. He loved learning new cooking skills and sharing special recipes with anyone who shared his passion. His generosity and kindness will always be remembered. He often surprised friends and families with gifts that highlighted the special connections they shared.

Puerto Vallarta was a favorite place to escape the Chicago winters. He loved spending time there and spoke often of his great friends, the Canadian neighbors in PV and the good times they shared.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 7, 2025, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Idlewild Country Club, 19201 Dixie Highway, Flossmoor, IL 60422.
