Simon
Mar 30, 1971 — May 9, 2023
Amy Catherine Simon, a loving and kind soul, passed away on May 9, 2023, in Chicago, Illinois.
Born on March 30, 1971, in Sycamore, IL, she was the beloved daughter of Sandra and Bill
Simon, the cherished sister of Anne Staples, and the devoted wife of Patrick Samson.
Amy is also survived by dear aunts, an uncle, and cousins.
Amy's life was marked by her dedication to her family and friends, her passion for the arts,
gardening, animals, and her commitment to her nursing career. She was a thoughtful and
empathetic person who touched the lives of many, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew
her.
Amy's educational journey began in her hometown of Genoa, where she attended local schools
and developed her love for the arts. She moved to Chicago and studied at Harry S.Truman
College. There, she earned her AAS in nursing, paving the way for her successful and fulfilling
career in healthcare. She worked tirelessly at various hospitals and home health care agencies
in Chicago, always striving to provide the best possible care to her patients.
While Amy was dedicated to her career, her true passion lay in the arts. She had a deep love for
music and could often be found playing her guitar or attending concerts. Her appreciation for
various genres of music was a testament to her open-mindedness and her ability to find beauty
in all forms of artistic expression. Amy was also a talented visual artist. She created stunning
paintings, drawings, and sculptures that captured her unique perspective on the world. In
addition to her interests in music and art, Amy had a green thumb and spent many hours
making the backyard beautiful.
Amy deeply loved the many animals she rescued and brought into her home.
Amy's love for her family was unwavering, and she was fiercely devoted to her husband Patrick,
her parents Sandra and Bill, her sister Anne, and her in-laws Eileen Samson and the late Tim
Samson Sr. She was a source of support and encouragement to them, offering her love and
guidance in every aspect of their lives.
One of the most striking qualities about Amy was her kindness. She was always willing to lend a
helping hand, offer a shoulder to cry on, or provide a listening ear to those in need. Her capacity
for empathy and understanding was unmatched, and she had a remarkable ability to make
everyone around her feel valued and important. Her generosity of spirit extended beyond her
family and friends to her patients and colleagues, who were often deeply touched by her
genuine concern for their well-being.
In her personal life, Amy faced life's challenges with courage and determination, always
maintaining a positive outlook and a sense of humor. Her strength of character was an
inspiration to those who knew her, and her memory will continue to serve as a beacon of hope
and encouragement for her loved ones.
As we remember Amy, we celebrate her life and the countless ways she enriched our lives
through her love, kindness, and passion for the arts. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and
minds of those she touched, and her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
Amy will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local animal shelter.
Rest in peace, dear Amy, knowing that you have left an indelible mark on this world and that
your memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know and love
you.
