Amelia
Bautista Santos
Aug 9, 1933 — Dec 2, 2023
Amelia Bautista Santos, a cherished beacon of intelligence and generosity, passed away on December 2, 2023, at the age of 90 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the eldest of Jose Bautista and Frances Grobe and was born on August 9, 1933, in Cavite City, Philippines, and brought light and love into the lives of all who knew her.
Amelia or Mely or Mel affectionately known by her friends and family, lived a life marked by dedication to her family, passion for her interests, and a commitment to education. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines, a testament to her intellect and determination. Her professional journey reflected her deep care for others, as she skillfully balanced her career with the demands of raising a vibrant family.
Preceded in death as she joins her beloved husband, Delfin Santos Sr, who she lost in 1994, Amelia's legacy continues through her children: Annabelle Abueg, married to Dan Abueg; Delfin Santos Jr., married to Lilian Santos; Stella Marie Santos, married to Kristen Lotz; Jennifer Roan, married to Oliver Roan; Jonalyn Santos; and David Santos, married to Ma Theresa Santos. Each of her children embodies her spirit of kindness and her love for knowledge. Amelia also had fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Amelia had five siblings, Rosa, Jose, Josefina, Ruby and Eric. Amelia is survived by her sister Ruby and in-laws Edmund, Juanita and Evelyn.
Her life was enriched by the love and care of the Raqueno-Bautista clan with all her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, grand and great grandchildren.
Amelia Santos had varied interests. She found solace in the pages of the Bible and other books, often being transported to different worlds through her love of reading. Her garden was a testament to her patience and nurturing touch, with every bloom reflecting the care she put into life. Her fondness for Lifetime and Hallmark movies as well as solving crossword puzzles were well known, as was her competitive spirit when playing mahjong and scrabble with friends and family.
Those who knew Amelia would describe her as not just intelligent and strong-willed, but incredibly generous. She gave her time, wisdom, and resources without a second thought, always ensuring that those around her felt valued and loved. As Albert Einstein once said, "Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile," a quote that encapsulates Amelia's approach to her ninety years on this earth.
Her warmth and kindness were not limited to her immediate family, as Amelia's influence extended to the many lives she touched. Friends, neighbors, and colleagues all felt the impact of her generous spirit and were often the recipients of her thoughtful advice and compassionate ear.
Amelia's presence was a gift, and while her passing leaves a void, her memory will continue to inspire. Her life was a tapestry of love, commitment, and grace that will remain a treasured legacy to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we bid farewell to Amelia Bautista Santos, we reflect on a life lived with purpose and love. She will be dearly missed, but the memories she created will be cherished and celebrated for generations to come. Her story does not end here, for her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and the many lives she has touched.
