Obituary

Alvin Ross Beatty, of Evanston, born November 15, 1932, died March 9, 2026. Son of the late Bertha (Mertens) and Howard W. Beatty. Survived by nephew Robert W. Blythe (Madeline Baum), niece Sharon B. Hu (Clifford), cousins Richard Beatty and Beth Bungartz (Rodney), and treasured local friends Mary Morton, Allen Oden and Tom Ryan, other dear friends across the country, and namesake Timothy Alvin Cooper of Devon, England.

After graduation from New Trier Township High School, he earned B.A. and M.B.A. degrees from Cornell University. Following service as an officer in the United States Air Force, he was employed as a commercial banker in Chicago and Southern California from 1957 until retiring in 1998.

Through-out his life, he was a dedicated volunteer with a number of nonprofit organizations including Senior Centers of Metropolitan Chicago (President), Hull House Association and Chicago Architecture Foundation (Board of Directors), and Cornell University Alumni Association of Chicago (President). For over 25 years living in the Los Angeles area and Ashland, Oregon, he devoted much time to several pet rescue and adoption agencies.

In recent years he was a volunteer at Chicago Botanic Garden and in several capacities at Westminster Place, where he resided since July 2010. In addition, he was a member of the Advisory Council of Seraj Library Project, serving the people of occupied Palestine, and an active supporter of the Evanston Animal Shelter.

Per his wishes, no services will be held.
