Alfonso "Al" Gurrola Maldonado passed peacefully in Chicago, Illinois on the 14th of July 2019 at the age of 62. Al was born on September 20th, 1956 in Laredo, Texas to the late Rafael and Lidia Maldonado. He graduated from Pearsall High School in 1975. He moved to Chicago, Illinois after high school and started his 40+ year career working in the rubber industry. It is there where he met his wife JoAnn (Oppenheimer) they would marry in 1983. They would move to Rockford, Illinois in 1985 for him to continue to further his work in the rubber industry. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, friend to many, loving and boastful father, grandpa, golfer, grill master, animal lover and so much more. Al is survived by his wife of 36 years, JoAnn (Oppenheimer); children, Olivia M. Covert (Chad), Charleston, SC, Alexander Maldonado, Rockford, IL and 3 grandchildren Briggs of Charleston, SC Alexander and Andrew of Rockford IL; siblings, Maria Olan, Anita Cruz (Domingo), Christina Maldonado (Conrado), Erminia Sánchez, Irene Maldonado, Richard Maldonado (Ester), Juvenal "Chico" Maldonado (Shirley), Victor Maldonado, Sr. (Martha), Rafael Maldonado IV (Grace), Ofilia M. Trevino (Abel), Lidia M. Villoni & Gloria M. Balderrama (Johnny). As well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by siblings Angelita Gonzalez, Amelia Sanchez, Rodolfo Maldonado Sr., Ramona Gallegos, Manuelita Maldonado and Rafael Maldonado III. A memorial service is planned with family in Moore, Texas at a later date along with the spreading of his ashes. In lieu of flowers, please consider registering as an organ donor.
