Alexandra
Ward
Sep 28, 1944 — Jun 23, 2024
Alexandra Ward, 79, died on Sunday, June 23, 2024 in Chicago, IL. She was born on September 28, 1944 in Dearborn, MI to Eugenia Lukas and Harry Frederick Dobson. She was predeceased by her husband Patrick Ward and is survived by her dog Darby and her regular human children Julie and Jeff. Sandy was a compassionate, folk music-loving Catholic who always voted blue and believed that the measure of a society is how we treat its meekest.
She was a librarian, amateur genealogist, and, for many years, worked at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Jacksonville, FL, where, every Christmas Eve, she and her family marveled at the number of times you could be asked, "When is midnight mass?" (It's at midnight.) She was a dancer in her youth and, as an adult, performed on stage with Mikhail Baryshnikov. In her later years, she studied watercolor, Tai Chi, quilting, and tap and delved into the world of left-wing, Tarot-reading YouTube influencers, which is a thing. She was happiest with her family, eating key lime pie and watching Death in Paradise, though with the departures of both Ruby and Marlon, had grown skeptical about the show's return. She was the smartest, funniest, and nicest mom there ever was, and if she were here now, she'd tell you to "relax and get something good to eat." So, relax and get something good to eat.
A prayer service will be held at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, MI on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be made in Sandy's name to World Central Kitchen.
