Joyce McCallum Yowell passed away Monday, April 11, 2022 at home in Glenview, Illinois. A memorial service to be held Monday May 16, 2022 at 11 am at the Glencoe Union Church in Glencoe, Illinois. Her ashes will be placed on Twin Sisters Mountain, Estes Park Colorado above Ye Owls' Nest. Video link can be found below in the events section, under Live Webcast. Joyce was born June 17, 1929. She graduated from West High School in Denver, Colorado in 1947, and she attended the University of Denver, College of Business from 1947 to 1949. She was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and joined PEO, Chapter BS/Illinois in May, 1958. Joyce was married to George Kent Yowell September 8, 1951. They met in Estes Park, Colorado where they both worked at the Chalet Lodge. Joyce was the Secretary to the Manager, and Kent was the Transportation Manager. Joyce and Kent moved to Glencoe, and later she became a member of the Glencoe Union Church on March 27, 1960. During her lifetime, Joyce worked for the Chicago Tribune, Hoffman Estates, the Rocky Mountain Motor Company and American Airlines. Living in Glencoe, Joyce and Kent served as F.I.S.H. Heads, leading the Fellowship in Serving Humanity. Joyce also served as a Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout leader, volunteer for the North Shore Senior Center and Evanston Hospital, and organized many Boy Scout Troop 24 spaghetti dinners, Glencoe Union Church Youth Fellowship dinners and pancake breakfasts. She also was a driver for the North Shore Senior Center for many years, telling stories and making good friends. In her later years, Joyce lived with her son John at the Valley Lo Towers in Glenview where she was active in various "gangs" including the pool, water aerobics, exercise class, bridge and book clubs. More than anything, Joyce valued many good friendships throughout her life, including her "More We Get Together" birthday circle and a bible study group, which included Betsy Sharp, Shirley Calhoun, Faith Watts (d.), Helen Turley, Irmgard Ruegsegger, Anita Baker, Betsy McGrew, Betty Zehr (d.), Betty Bryan and Rev. Bobbie Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nile Clinton McCallum and Marguerite Hamm McCallum; her husband, George Kent Yowell, who died December 1999, just short of their 50 th anniversary; and her brother-in-law William Riley Yowell. Joyce is survived by her children and their spouses: John Jasper Yowell, Sharon Gritz Yowell, Susan Kent Yowell, Maggie Yowell Wilson, Robert Wayne Wilson, Helen Elizabeth Rouman, and Steven George Rouman. Grandchildren and their spouses: Jessica, Zephram (Kristie), Diane, Jason, Donna, Justin (Ebonie), Micah (Alisha), George, Kate, Johnny, and Teddy. Great Grandchildren: Ione, Gracelyn, Desmond, Ivy, Sophia, Jase, and Jasper. Joyce is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sheila Yowell.
